So you are ready to start waxing? You've read a ton online and chatted with a few friends. Let me start by saying, the pain is NOT as bad as you've heard. That is the number 1 comment I get after my clients first Brazilian wax. So now that we have squared that worry away, let's get to preparation and what you need to know before your appointment.

First off, we cannot wax if you are on Accutane. This medication causes skin thinning all over the body and can cause tearing.
Hair needs to be about 1/4in minimum (or the length of a grain of rice). Any shorter, wax cannot grab the hair. Long hair is fine, but can be a bit more painful. I DO NOT recommend trimming before your visit, in case you cut it too short.
Exfoliate your intimate area the night before. This helps the waxer get all the hair from the root.
Brazilian waxing is fabulous before wearing a bikini, but to get the true benefits of Brazilian waxing, you will want to continue to wax every 4 weeks. Brazilian waxing will thin out the hair over time and reduce/eliminate ingrowns. Only getting waxed before trips does yield smooth skin, but none of the long term benefits.
Consuming Caffeine or Cannibas within a few hours of your visit can make the waxing session a bit more painful.
Waxing during menstruation is possible as long as you are using a tampon or menstrual cup. However, waxing during menstruation can be a bit more painful due to existing sensitivities from your cycle.
If your doctor approves of your use of NSAIDS (Tylenol, Advil, etc.), then you can take them about 30-45min prior to visit to ease the pain.
You will likely experience a very small amount of pinpoint bleeding. This happens when the hair is removed from the root the first time.
Bring clean, breathable underwear to wear post wax. We do not want tight clothing or friction irritating the freshly waxed skin.
Do not schedule your wax within 24hrs of swimming, exposure to sand, sitting in a jacuzzi, etc. There is a potential to introduce bacteria and irritation to the freshly waxed skin.
No sauna, hot yoga, gym, sex, friction, steaming water, exfoliating, or heavy sweating immediately after waxing. It is recommended to wait 12-24hrs.
